The Living Sword

I am still going through the videos that i linked on in my previous post but I couldn't help my self I just wanted to try my Wacom again. I wanted to make a sword because I love modeling swords, it makes me feel like a blacksmith :p and on the plus side they are also easy to Uv map so I could jump into texturing imidiatly. There is a catch decided to make something different, somthing not done before, (after very quick search on google) a sword that is alive i might say... so i went for a... Plant sword.

I dont know why, but i did it because i can!!

I'm not quite happy with the look of the blade but I had to do something so i chose a color combination that can never go wrong, black and red.

Here comes the room for improvement part for me, let me explain. The thing is when Uv mapping one has to "cut" some edges to be able to make the mesh distinguishable and paintable on a flat area. That edge that has been "cut" are then separated to one end to the other and as a result are painted in different ways. There is an picture of this bellow.
That black line which runs along the flower is the edge that i cut and it along the handle too but it is almost unnoticeable because of the way the handle was painted.

First Textured Model

As you may know by now i got my hands on a Wacom drawing pad via my mom ( salamat mama!! :D ). Everything in photoshop is ten times way more easy to do, finally no more painting with a mouse ^_^ This is my first  model ever to have a texture that is completely done by yours truly.. moi :p and so without further adieu here it is:

Last but not her least: The Awesome Closeup

There is a nice video tutorial about how to make a treasure chest here. I didn't use this tutorial but now that I think of it, it would make everything much more easier to do

Ohh and by the way UV mapping is still a pain in the a** to do. It took me approximately three hours to finish the mapping and another three or maybe five to finnish the texturing as it turnes out i love texturing :D On another side note TIL (Today I Learned) that the abreviation of UV stands for Unified View

Video Tutorial Reviews Incoming

It seems that my investor... aka mom :) is going to buy me a Wacom drawing pad. So I've decided to look at roughly about 10 or maybe more video tutorials on Youtube. I will update this post and link all useful tutorials that i have looked at.

The videos that I'm going to look at are mostly tutorials on painting and UV mapping and finally I am going to texture the treasure chest that I will make later.

Here are the links that i am planing on going through tommorow I will sort this and categorize them later. Just to let you know i chose these videos randomly so i do not know the quality of the content until I have watched them.

Art
This is about making a portrait with a photo reference. It's kind of long and the maker of the video goes through the basics of Photoshop but I did learn a few tricks about PSh. Watching the video thought me a few on the techniques of painting and the result is this:

On to the other videos... Man this is taking longer than i expected :)

Now this one is aboout the laso tool and Chris Oatley talks about how little acidents in the painting makes it more lively as controling everything in the painting may kill the art. He talks about alot of interesting aspects of speed painting and painting techniques.

Ok I won't be able to go through all this videos at this time, I'm too exited with my Bamboo Wacom :D But in time I will try to go through all the videos update this page

Update:

June 29 2013
The Video on this link talks about different painting techniques and how painting is a way of expressing ones self. This tutorial focuses on transparency locking and again the artist likes to have little mistakes on the painting ;) This video has thought me how to use the transparency locking. I had no idea that one could do that... I feel like such a noob :}

With four or five videos behind me this is probably the best tutorial video in my picks that I have seen so far. He talks about a lot things, granted that the video is also about half an hour long. He shows different ways of making a simple but elegant art using masks and gradients. He also show different tricks and shortcuts on how to use the layer panels. The best of all i now know the shortcut for merging different layers :p which is ctrl E.

Coloseum and Stuff

I'm here in Norrköping staying with my pearents and all i have is this laptop that can barely play any games so i made some random stuff that took no time to make. The things that I made is a building with a smashed roof, a skelly concept and a Coloseum made out of simple objects. im planing on continuing the skelly concept and I'm looking at the skeleton model of Elderscrolls: Morrowind

Shield

OMG its a shield it's so cute with its heatherieness hahhaha. nah but Made a shield with a simple UV-layout and by the way i still don't have a digital pad in case your wondering . I made the emblem my self tracing a picture on Google and adding effects on it other than that i haven't done anything much, it's because of a new game that i'm playing World Of Battles. The game is more like Rome Total War but with a fantasy twist to it. anyways i'm digressing there are the images if you haven't already looked at them

New Gasmask

I had nothing else to do and i couldn't come up with a new thing to make so i decided to try to re-make the gas-mask that i made in Blender but in Maya instead. Right from the start I noticed that when i was playing/making models in blender it felt like i had more freedom to do what ever i like to the mesh and get the result that i wanted without exerting much so effort into it. Then again these are two different types of companies with different coders. One can always import the models you made into Maya so there's no problem :) I'm not sure if it works both ways though.

The way that I made these meshes was that i started out from a simple cube and extruded and moved some of the faces till I got the shape that i wanted to have. Now these models are very high poly and i did not pay any attention to how many there was the only thing that i focused on was to make the model look smooth. Now that you have waved through the wall of text you deserve to see the pictures :) and here they are:

Here is the blender Mask

Here is the one i made in Maya

Ohhhh POWERFUL gods of Maya I beseech thee!

I donno but that's what i get from seeing this image xP

But yeah I've been playing around in Maya with trying the curves and doing some more smooth meshes i.e. higher polygon counts. I've actually learned alot with this video about curves. That would make it easier to make pipelines or tubes that goes in to some character or something in that way. I actually used NURBS for the fist time i have no idea what they are but they kinda make the curves much more easier to make.

Here are the curves that i made and reasently learned about
SOO much easier to do with nurbs

TUG Ax Finished

I've finished the ax but I kinda cheated a bit with the texturing of the ax. The thing is I searched Google for the textures and overlaid them on my base color and from there I had the base detail the only thing that i needed to do was add all the fine detail.

I promise when I have a digital drawing pad I will make all my textures from scratch. :)

Ax Update

I have been working on the texturing of the ax, so far so good but it's harder to do withowt the proper tools i.e. I need a digital drawing pad. :( Sins i've got no money I will have to make due wit my mouse and buy the pad when i have the cash for it.

Enough with my complains here is the early early textureing of the ax

As I said it's supper early but the bace of the ax will be like that now the hard part is adding deatail.
Hmmmm... I do have some saving on my bank. Not sure if I'll use bank money to buy the pad.

Ax Uv mapping and Model is finally done

It might be because I am not skilled at mapping but this is the most irritating thing to do! Even though it's irritating I am getting the hang of it. It doesn't take that much long time for me to map a mesh anymore. The next thing i need to learn is to place the mapped UVs so that there are less unoccupied places on the... what do you call it? agh let's just call it a canvas.

Here is the Mapping

Some parts of UVs are on the same places for example the bolts and the back part of the ax.  I did this because I think it will save some space for much larger objects.
The Stats

And the Model it Self

Originally the model was about a thousand faces or more but after I've deleted a lot of unnecessary edges and vertices I managed to take it down to less than five hundred, which is awesome :D

Now I'm done with the mapping I'm moving on to texturing, I hope everything goes well! :)

TUG Fan Model

Right now I am making a 3D fan model for the game TUG the concept is from another TUGplayer named (name and link). I am trying to make it as low poly as possible while keeping the detailed intact, like professionals do ;) anyways here is the work I have done so far.

The model that I am working on. The concept art (in the background) is made by Thisdrino

Making the handle was easy, I just had to make a cylinder and built it from that, the blade part on the other hand is more tricky I had to make the front blade from a square and the backside from a cylinder. After making the model I will make a UV mapping of the model and then move onto texturing it.

So much for the Game-Jam

Last Monday two of my friends and I decided to enter our schools game-jam where you only have 12 hours to come up with a game concept produce a game with the Game Maker.

The Game Maker is a program is an easier program to develop a game, compared to C# or C++. anyways when we started we just blurted out a lot of crazy ideas. Some included hobos and then progressed to cyber-hobos that went back in time to kill everyone. I forgot to mention that one of the concept is that the setting is in the past (middle ages or pre-historic). We sat there babbling about ideas and.. Nothing, we couldn't decide on what to do... So we made a Cyber-Cupcake that was supposed to be the player. Half way through the Game-Jam we decided to scrap it and just cut our loses and do something else worth doing.

Our programmer, Dogge tried to make our side-scroller into a top down with no avail and started playing League Of Legends instead. Our music guy, Leo fell in love with his music that he made. He continued to work on it till the end of the Jam. Me? Well I made a concept art AFTER I made the sprites for the game, yeah i know so stupid. But i had a lot of fun being there even though we weren't able to produce a game. I learned a bunch of things too, like it is a hundred times easier to paint with a digital drawing pad, and to never dive in on one concept and hoping that everything will solve by itself.

Here is the concept art i did with the drawing pad

A blast from the past

While rummaging about my old USBs i found my teams old project and some old 3D meshes that i have made. Surprisingly I have actually made a bad ass castle but did not finished it and a bamboo shoot with a small bump mapping on it

Also here are some videos that I made. One is from a school project about making a small city district and the other a small running animation i made during my time in blender.

Edit: here are some more stuff I've uncovered from my files

TUG Fan art

Well got some practice with painting in Photoshop and here is the results :) I made this without any reference pictures.

I found that it's hard form me to paint in depth on paintings on the other hand i learned how to color xD i know this sounds silly but I ussually do scetches only on blacvk and white and i don't have to worry about the color so I have a lot of trouble coloring because of needing to match the highlight to the base color and so on. This gave me a tough time but I learnt some new tricks. Shadows in painting are also new to me

The Can

I did not know what to do today so i just tried to make a simple can and texture it. it turned out to be a pain in the ass but i eventually managed to unwrap the UV textures and apply a texture on it, It's not the most advanced texture but here it is :)

My next project in actually not going to be 3D. I just realised my bellow average skills on Photoshop so I am going to make a Fan art for TUG a game that I really hope that will make a huge susses.

Re-texturring Nauti

As a League Of Legends fan, I made a re-texture of a champion named Nautilus. Everything would have been great but the problem is I could not implement it in-game because all the skin installers are out dated, so when i install the skin it doesn't show up in-game it only shows the original. What i did is just took a screenshot on Maya

The first one is his original skin and the second one is the re-texture i made. I call it Dreadnaut. I really like how i retextured Nauti he looks so much more badass tis a shame that i cant see him like this in game

Disclamer: I did  not make the models, I borrowed the model and texture from Leage Of Legends and they are the sole owner of this character.
